Question - is any hotel within walking distance to the falls? It's hard to guess from what I've read so far. If all are far, do most have a shuttle? Any preferences? We don't need a falls view...Thanks!!

If you're bringing kids to Niagara then one of the hotels connected to the new water park might be good to look at. They are also very near the Falls themselves:

The shuttle that offers the easiest way to get around Niagara and the attractions is the People Mover....beyond just the Falls themselves.

plenty of hotels within walking distance.
Hi Pam:
There are many, many hotels within walking distance of the falls if you mean about 10 minutes. These range from cheap 50's style motels up to 4 and 5 star rated high rise hotels. You can also choose to stay at other properties away from the Falls on Lundy's Lane etc and all of these are served by the Niagara Falls hotel shuttle which runs all summer. The People Mover that another poster refers to runs along the Parkway by the Falls and out to some of the other attractions along the Niagara River. Things like the Butterfly Conservatory, the Spanish Aerocar, the whirlpool etc can be reached by this.
If you want to be right in the Clifton Hill area the Sheraton properties are a good location. The new waterpark is attached as is one of the casinos. The city isn't that large but the walk up some of the hills can get to you. There is also the incline railway which takes you from Table Rock area at the Falls up to the new casino and other shops and hotels in the Fallsview area.
Hope this helps.
regards,
