My husband and I took advantage of the kids being at camp and took a boating trip to the Gulf Islands and Vancouver. The contrast was enormous, from the tranquility of the Gulf Islands to the action of Vancouver, but we enjoyed both.
Our first stop was "Poet's Cove," on S. Pender. This used to be Bedwell Harbour. Poet's Cove just opened in May and almost all the units are sold out (quarter shares). It is a 4 1/2 star spa resort, with a restaurant, pool (soon to be two), spa, and other activities, all facing west over the waters. Lovely and expensive.
Next we went to Telegraph Harbor on Thetis Is. It is a wonderful spot, with badmitten, tetherball, shuffleboard, an old fashioned ice cream bar - a step into the past. I don't know where there are accomodations, as we stayed on the boat.
Next, we went to Silva Bay on Gabriola Island. We had our bikes and rode around the island and visited some art studios and galleries. Very nice.
Then, on to Vancouver. Wow! Vancouver is so modern, sparkly clean, full of flowers, parks, water features. It was like a trip into the future. We especially enjoyed biking around the seawall and going to some of the theater on Granville Island. The take-off on CSI was hilarious and the comedy, "Number 14," ingenious.
Thank you, Canada!

Orcas, your trip report brings to mind wonderful memories for our family has travelled to those same Islands. Aaah!
Next time, add a couple of days and head to the north Gulf Islands, our favourites, and include Desolation Sound.
Glad you had a good time,
Linda
BowenLinda, You said it! We actually were able to visit Princess Louisa Inlet, Desolation Sound and places north a few years ago with our children. That is the vacation by which all others are measured. It was awesome. We are hoping we have the time to do that again one day and go even further north.
I had no idea how we'd manage a month vacation in our little boat with them, but it was truly magical. We all had a wonderful time together exploring and enjoying the gorgeous vistas everywhere we turned. This is one pretty planet!
