Gros Morne in September?

We are considering visiting Newfoundland in September. We would be tent camping and just beginning to do some research. Is this a good time to visit? Will the weather be ok?

How will wildlife spotting be, crowds?

thanks

Taking the last first, let me reassure you about the crowds...this will not be a problem. As one who lived in Western Newfoundland (Corner Brook), I was always surprised and saddened by how little tourism there seemed to be after the end of August.

The trees will be starting to turn at the end of September: there will be blueberry-picking galore throughout the month and the temperatures can be mild (high 60's/even early 70's by day and bring a sweater for the evenings, a jacket for by-the-sea).

For tent-camping, I'd be prepared with extra-warm sleeping bags, as some higher elevations may get pretty chilly on the ground especially if it rains.

Challenges with car rentals diminish by mid-September.

Wildlife: for sure, moose...whales offshore...foxes...

Having opened by saying there won't be crowds, I will just say that September is a favourite time for locals to do their own hiking in Gros Morne (and on up the Peninsula) so do get hold of the Newfoundland Labrador Tourism website, follow instructions and book your spots now.
