Great Hair Salon in Toronto
I'll have a day off while my husband is attending seminars all day. I'm looking for a new look! Would love to take this opportunity to try a new salon and get a great haircut and colour. We'll be staying in Yonge/Mt Pleasant area but I'll take subway for a great stylist. Any suggestions?

I would highly recommend my stylist who happens to be on Eglinton Ave.E. between Yonge and Mt. Pleasant. Her name is Laya (pronounced Lye-ah) and she is the owner of Sassi Hair Design -phone number 416-487-2254. She takes the time to do a really great job, is an expert when it comes to colour and styling and is a wonderful person too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

You can't go wrong with one of the Civello Aveda salons. There's one on Yonge north of Eglinton and another larger one on Yonge just north of Bloor. Yet another is located on Queen Street West in the shopping area. They are higher end places with excellent stylists and colourists, as well as other spa services.

finally made it to Sassi's on Eglinton. I was quite happy with my cut but thought her prices were high..but maybe I'm just not used to Toronto prices. On her website it says she has 20% off for 1st timers etc. My cut, colour and hi-lights was $160 plus tip. Is that reasonable for the area?

Yup!
While price is not a definitive marker of quality, that price is in line with most of the top salons in Ottawa/Montreal/Toronto. Compare the quality of your cut with, say, a walk-in $10 shop. Are you happy? If so, it is money well spent.
cheers!

Hi Bashful, yes unfortunately that is the going rate in the big city for her type of salon. But if it makes you feel any better, I know someone who got a cut and colour - no highlights-at a very high end salon downtown to the tune of $300.00. Now THAT is expensive but it's really all relative to what you are used to or are prepared to pay.
