Golf Packages

My friend and I will be in PEI Aug 19-28 and are in the booking phase right now. Our trip is for golf, but plan to do a bit of exploring as well.

Should we get the golf packages? Or would we be better off to find accommodations and then wing it with the golf? We're looking into staying at either Charlotte's Rose Inn for 3 nights (or Dundee Arms...same nights) and then trying for a week at Green Gables. The prices look reasonable and then we thought we could just find the courses we wanted to play and try to get on as a twosome.

Any experiences to share?
