Fran's restaurant in Toronto

Jump to last reply

A few weeks ago someone asked where Fran's restaurant is, in Toronto.

I'm not sure there was any answer.

I found a new branch on the weekend, and will try it out tomorrow evening.

At the corner of Front and Scott, across the street from the Sony Centre and St. Lawrence Center theatres. Sony used to be Hummingbird, and before that, O'Keefe.

Scott is one block east of Yonge.

HISTORY: Fran's has been around for decades, in multiple locations in Toronto. Most famous for apple pie, banquet burgers and macaroni & cheese. It fell on hard times as trendy food became popular, went through various owners, and (except maybe for one on College Street) disappeared.

Manager, in 30 sec. conversation last Saturday, told me there are new owners, but they are trying to keep with traditions. Quick glance at the benu showed banquet burgers still there. Did not look for pie, but I bet it's there too.

I'm shooting a magazine cover in the lobby of the downtown Novatel tomorrow, and we'll go eat at Fran's after instead of facing the traffic.

I'll report back.
