Looking for some ideas where to go for a week w/ kids (8 & 11) -- interested in hiking, whitewater rafting, biking, etc. Live in Boston and would like to drive in less than 8 hours or so. Have already done Acadia and Mt. Tremblant....thinking maybe Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, but not sure where.

My first recommendation would have been Cape Breton Nova Scotia including the National Park, Cabot Trail, etc. but it's a good bit more than an 8 hour drive. Still, it's spectacular, so if you want to consider it, here's a few links:

Another thought - in Ontario - north of Toronto and west of Ottawa and closer to your 8 hour criteria (maybe 9 to 10 hours) a combination trip could be:
- Algonquin Provincial Park. Lovely huge wilderness area with hundreds of lakes, excellent hiking trails, bike trails, kayaking/canoeing, great wildlife viewing. Links:

- White water rafting on the Ottawa and/or Madawaska Rivers:

Book well ahead for the rafting. In fact I would suggest booking accommodations, especially for summer weekends, well ahead too.
Mat54: Thanks much. I've heard great things about Cape Breton -- however, with the Maine-NS ferry now out of service, I think it's just a little too long in a car to get up there. Sounds wonderful though.
Lincoln: I probably wasn't entirely clear with my second suggestion. Algonquin and the White Water Rafting, although not in the same location, are about a 1 to 2 hour drive apart (so you could either stay in one location and day-trip, or follow up several days in Algonquin with a night or 2 at one of the OWL sites).
Another destination for a day or 2 in the same general vicinity is the Barron Canyon River section of Algonquin Park (accessed from a different point in the park than the main "Highway 60 Corridor" which I had been thinking of in my original recommendation). Check out:
