Fall travel - need hotels Montreal & Ottawa
My husband and I are visiting family in Toronto after which we are driving to Ottawa & on to Montreal before flying home to San Francisco. We would like to stay in centrally located hotels in Montreal & Ottawa from which we could walk &/or take public transportation to museums & other sites of interest. We will be traveling the week of 10/10. Your suggestions are appreciated.

http://bywardmarketsquare.com/location/index.htm My favourite area to stay in Ottawa as its walking distance to all the key sites, places to eat and shopping.

hi there , after a week's stay in early june, i would highly recommend the Lord Elgin Hotel opposite centennial park and the national arts centre. great central location; nice restos , cafes, shopping w/i 3 blocks. it's a beautiful old building that's been nicely maintained. very friendly staff and one of the better indoor hotel pools i 've used.
in toronto i've styed very comfortably @ Pantage's almost one br or bachelor suites w/ intermittant great room sales/ also been happy in courtyard by marriott on yonge w/ it's very helpful staff
cheers

The Lord Elgin is a good choice. I would also recommend the Chateau Laurier and the Westin, both centrally located on the Rideau Canal and close to all the sights.
The Byward Market is fun to visit, but I'm not sure I would stay there. It can get loud and a bit rowdy (at least by Ottawa standards) at night. If you do stay in the Market, the Courtyard Marriott is the place to stay (in fact it's the only place to stay in the Market).

Four Points Sheraton in Gatineau-Ottawa, 35 Laurier, right across from Museum of History (Civilization).
It is a short walk across the bridge to the National Art Gallery, Byward Market, the Parliament, etc.
Cheaper than Lord Elgin, with cheaper parking.
We have stayed there on two occasions.

I just visited the Museum of History and it is just wonderful. I was there three hours and could have stayed longer. Great views across the river of the Parliament Buildings and Chateau Laurier. Make sure you make it to the third floor. Free on Thursday after 4p.m. You can walk across the Alexander bridge and then take the water taxi back ($5.00). I would also recommend the Lord Elgin.
