East of Quebec City?
I have changed our trip a hundred times...1st to Nova Scotia, then PEI, then, New Foundland and then..maybe Labrador.
NOW...finally, we decided to make it simple and drive to Quebec City and points east along the north side of the St Lawrence.
Any tips..where to stop, what to see..how far east we should go?? Is the north side the most interesting and scenic?
We are looking for scenery and not too touristy.
Whadda you think?

The Charlevoix region is beautiful. There are quaint towns and lots of parks to go camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, etc.

The Saguenay is also very nice, as is Tadoussac, which you can get to by taking the ferry at Baie-Sainte-Catherine.

We did 2 nights in Quebec City and 3 nights in the Charlevoix region a few years ago and had a great time. Don't miss:
Ile de Orleans - Beautifully unspoiled French style countryside of rolling farmland and tiny villages.
Baie-Saint-Paul - The artsy-touristy mecca for this area. Lots of places to stay and eat.
Ile aux Caudres - Quiet mix of vacation homes and farmland. Great for biking, Taduossac - A 'beach resort' town on the frigid St. Lawrence.

I suggest a cruise if you visit Sanguenay Fjords. We tried hiking along the edge, but I don't think we made the best choice.
If and when I return, I want to take two cruises. One to see whales and one to see the Fjords better.

Crossing to the south side is worth it for tour return trip. Take the ferry for Rivière-du-Loup at Saint-Siméon. Do not take the freeway (A-20). Take route 132 instead. The Kamouraska area is beautiful.
