East Coast Vancouver Island
I posted a message "West Coast Vancouver Island Accommodation" but I meant the east coast of Vancouver Island. We are looking for a place to stay for one night before going to Tofino for a few days. We will be arriving on the ferry at Nanaimo in the afternoon and thought we would drive up the coast to perhaps Courtenay or Campbell River. Any suggestions for a resort or inn for one night? We are a family of four with two teenagers.

Geography problem solved, I see. With teenagers, I'd recommend www.tigh-na-mara.com; lot's to do.

I had read about the this resort but had read some negative reviews on another site. I thought it looked like a place that we would enjoy. The review said it was getting "tired" and rundown looking as far as the rooms. As anyone stayed there recently?

There are several Resort Hotels on Resort Drive in Parksville. Tigh-na-mara is the best known and is made up of log cabins in the forest and a large central building with many suites overlooking the ocean.
Also on resort drive you will find, Ocean Trails, Madrona and Beach Acres. All give you access to kilometers of beach walking. When the tide goes out one can walk at least a kilometer directly out to sea. The sun heats the sand and when the tide returns it warms the water and one can swim. You won't be able to do that at Tofino without a wet suit. I am of course making the assumption that you are planning to visit in summer.
