Driving round trip from Vancouver to Calgary
Hello everyone,
My family and I we are planning a driving round trip from Vancouver to Calgary. We are 6 family members (and one two years old boy).
We are planning to leave Vancouver on Wednesday July 12th, get in Calgary on the 14th (we already have a place where to get in Calgary). Leave Calgary Monday 17th getting back to Vancouver around 19-20th.
I will appreciate any advice or suggestion about:
Routes to go and back
Best places to visit (Activities)
Hotel and restaurant recommendations
I will really appreciate any comment =)
Maria

What are you planning to do while you are Calgary?
If you're coming to see the mountains, you made need a rethink.
Calgary is not an ideal location from which to explore the Rockies. You're looking at a good 2 hrs drive each way, likely longer with construction and congestion. Parking is going to be a major issue, especially since it will be a weekend/near weekend, and you'll be behind all the people staying in Banff/Lake Louise/Canmore.
Finding accommodation at this point could be tricky, but if the mountains are what you're coming to see, I would look at least in Canmore for accommodation.
You really don't have much time to/from Calgary. Especially given the construction between Revelstoke and the AB/BC border, it's a good two days of driving each way. Probably 5 hrs of driving each day, so some time for stops, but not a real sightseeing kind of trip.
For one night, we'd generally suggest a stop in Revelstoke or Salmon Arm. But book ASAP - things will be very busy in July.
