Dinosaur Provincial Park accomodations?
Can anyone recommend a hotel/motel close to Dinosaur Provincial Park (Patricia or Brooks, Alberta)? Our family (2 adults and 2 children) will be at the park for 2 nights in June. Any advice of where to or not to stay is appreciated.

The Heritage Inn rates 2 diamonds in the AAA guide. So does the Super 8.
both in Brooks. The Alberta Visitors's Guide includes the Plains Motel, the Tel Star Motor Inn,and the WEstbrook Motel.
The Douglas Country Inn rates 3 stars in the Alberta Guide; the Tel-star rates two stars.
South of the higway is the Country Lodge -- 58 rooms. The Douglas Country Inn sounds small -- 7 rooms.
If you want the phone numbers email me directly.
A word of caution about that Alberta sun. Because it is fairly low on the horizon, it seems to get up under hat brims. Because the air is relatively dry and free of particles, the sun seems to burn more. Painful memeory.
There is virtually no shade in the Badlands of eastern Alberta. It is hot and very, very dry in the summer.

Thanks ,Bob.We will try to heed your warning about the sun and use plenty of sunblock, hats, and water bottles. My husband doesn't like hot weather so I am hoping that the rest of our trip (Calgary, Waterton and Banff) will be a lot cooler.I ordered the Alberta Accomodations Guide and have the listing you are referring to. The diamonds in that book or even in a AAA guide only indicate facilities and not quality though. For all the rest of my reservations I have had the recommendation of a person or Fodor's book to guide me (not always successful but often helpful). Has anyone used one of these hotels in Brooks?

As I live in Brooks I have never stayed in one of our hotels/motels but if I were booking for someone I would choose the Plains, Heritage or Super 8. The Plains is the only one with a swimming pool which may be important to your children. Feel free to e-mail me direct if you wish. Val

Thanks for your help Val. I tried to send you an e-mail but it wouldn't go through. I have decided to book
the Plains hotel in Brooks because of the pool. I don't know if we will use it but
I understand it can be pretty hot in your area at the end of June and after a day
at Dino. Provincial Park, a dip in the pool might cool everyone down.
Do you have any recommendations on casual places to eat? We do have the
2 kids with us (11 and 6) so kid-friendly is important. I am sure there are chains
we might be familiar with but perhaps you have a local favorite you could
recommend.
Thanks so much for your help. It is truly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Wendy
