Going to Lake Louise/Lake Moraine in about 4 weeks. Can anyone recommend some nice dining establishments? (doesn't have to be fancy or expensive -- non-touristy atmosphere and good value is what we're after). We're staying at the Post for 3 nights and at Moraine Lake Lodge for 2. <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR>Glenn

IN my opinion the best is at the Post Hotel. Been there three times, never dispointed.

The restaurant at the Post Hotel is exceptional- great food & atmosphere. Nearby, down the street is another restaurant in what was originally a train station. There's even service in an old train car. That's a good place to go for casual, less expensive food.

We just got back from LL. You're going to love it! I wish I was back at the Post right now. We arrived late and had dinner at the Post's pub, The Outpost. Casual but good food. A little smoky, it is small. Dinner at the restaurant was wonderful. I wanted to try a Canadian wine but our waiter steered us away from them. Any suggestions, Canadians? We had lunch at the Station restaurant. Also very good. I don't know whether you're going to find good value anywhere in the area. It is a resort area. We found dining to be pretty expensive. It may have been just the places we chose. Have fun.

That's odd that a Canadian establishment would steer you away from Canadian wines... perhaps it was the wrong wine for the meal?

I liked the Station Restaurant. You can dine in either the redone railway cars but I think the restaurant itself is great. Not too formal, good choice. There are also a couple of good restaurants at Chateau Lake Louise.

I'm planning ahead... <BR>We're debating over which restaurant to eat at on our last night in Banff. The concierge suggested the following to me: Maple Leaf and the Grizzly House. She also mentioned Beaujolais --Georgios - Guidos – Cilantro --Classico --Any comments?

This is a response to Barbara. We just returned from the Rockies and ate at Classico as we were staying at the Rimrock Resort. The meal was great and the service outstanding, but it is very pricey. I understand the Post is very fine and might be a better buy fir that kind of meal. In downtown Banff, we loved a small restaurant called Coyote's. Good prices, good food, great value. Wonderful breakfasts also!

I would bipass the more expensive Banff and drive down the road 15 mins to Canmore. This town has over 30 restaurants and is less expensive. <BR> <BR>I suggest either Zonas (1 block off main street) or The Sheraton 4 points in Canmore. Very tasty meals. I have eaten at most of the restaurants listed above and find them equivalent, nice ambiance and less expensive. <BR> <BR>Talk to the locals in Canmore. They really know their food choices. <BR> <BR>
