We are driving from Seattle to Vancouver, BC on Aug 11th where we have a house rental and wanted the drive to be scenic as well as getting us to our destination. I am wondering if taking Ferry to Whigbey and driving up the island to Highway 20 and then hooking up with the Chuckanut drive is possible time wise and if Whigbey Island drive is worth the time or if we should just do chuckanut drive. I think we'd like to do the Sumas crossing. Is that a bad idea?

The road up the length of WhiDbey Island is mostly treed.
Deception Pass with its scenic bridge and wonderful view is
lovely but IMO not worth the long detour. The Chuckanut Drive
is very nice and doesn't take too much more time than the I5.
Sumas Xing is our go-to - usually much faster than Peace Arch.
Seattle to Vancouver, BC? ...plunging off mountain paths???!!
No, No, it's all Interstate highway ...no narrow mountain paths involved. No traffic signals at all, freeway all the way. The only place you'll have to stop (unless you want to) is at the border crossing. Once you cross the border, it's still freeway into Vancouver.
Unless of course you want to go the scenic route through Chuckanut Drive which is sometimes narrow and windy but nowhere will you be in great danger of plunging off anything unless you're an extremely poor driver.
