Cape Breton Highlands National Park
We are camping at CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDS NATIONAL PARK this summer and can't decide between the following camps: CHETICAMP, BROAD COVE and INGONISH. Has anyone been to any of these and can give advice?
Also anyone who knows which sites offer the most privacy with trees etc. The reservation site has no pics and their descriptions are not great.

Ingonish & Broad Cove are very close in proximity. The Ingonish/Broad Cove coastline is one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on Earth. I wld stay in Broad Cove or Ingonish campgrounds. Ingonish is smaller. Both have "fireplace" campsites so I would reserve one of those if you can.
When are you arriving? For how long? Maybe you shd reserve both.

We're arriving mid July for 5 nights. Apparently you can reserve Cheticamp and Broad Cove but Ingonish is first come first served. I don't like the idea of driving all the way from Ontario to take a chance on first come first served. So it will probably be Broad Cove since it is on the Ocean.
Do you know anything about the privacy of sites at Broad Cove? Or Ingonish, in case Broad Cove doesn't work out.
Also, how far are the trails from Broad Cove and Ingonish?

Samual,
That sounds good. Can you cancel BC if you arrive and prefer Ingonish & they have availability? Trails are probably close....everything is close in Ingonish! You will see what I mean when you get there.
Do you have a copy of the NS Dept of Tourism Travel Guide?
It may provide you with additional info. Go to
www.novascotia.com
At that website, you can order the NS 2011 Doers' and Dreamers' Travel Guide, Maps and more. You can "wait list" for the 2012 Travel Guide which will be available next month.
Sorry I cannot help w/ your PEI thread. PEI probably has Travel Guides that you can order. PEI is a wonderful place to bike. Will you be bringing your bikes?
Mid-July is one of the best times to visit NS and PEI!
Bring your camera! Cameraphone..whatever...

I have the 2011 guide and am waiting for the 2012 one.
They charge something like $8 if you cancel a reservation.
I'm also a little worried about the small amount of firepits they have. In Ontario, all the sites have firepits. We definately want a firepit.
The reason we need a private site is because my nephew has autism and doesn't do very well around other people. Especially in an unfamiliar environment. I'm wondering if I e mail or phone them closer to July and explain our situation if they would help us find a private site.
Any suggestions.........anyone?
