This is a continuation of a conversation that was started on an unrelated thread. I had noted that I've frequently read comments about weather on Cape Breton - rain and fog. I commented that perhaps we've been lucky because in 4 visits over the last 18 years (last one being summer 2010), bad weather has not been a major issue. Sometimes a bit of fog but mostly in the morning (and it usually burns off) or late evening.
I noted that most of our visits have been in late August. Fog is often a result of temperature differential between air and water or land. I'm wondering if maybe late summer, when there is less air/water/land temperature differential than at some other times of year, results in less fog?
Maybe some locals or other frequent visitors (or meteorologists) could weigh in?
We're thinking of planning another visit in 2012 or 2013 but had thought about going in late June. Maybe I should reconsider based on doing some more weather research.
Cape Breton - best time of year for a visit?

I have lived there and been back many times. I love the end of July for summer weather, beach and warmth. But my favourite time is early October with the Celtic Colours Festival and the beautiful fall colours. We did this two years ago and although it rained on one of the days, everything was so spectacular it just didnt matter.
