Canadian Rockies - Burgess Shale and rafting

We have all our plans made for Jasper and Banff end of August! We have also booked a day hike at the Burgess Shale - leaves early morning for 10 hours. Our plan is to stay at Field the night before and after but that is 1/2 hour from where the hike begins. Not too far, I know, but wondering if there is any wonderful or good place to stay nearer by? There are several pricey lodges and I wonder if they are worth it as a special treat, or if we're better off staying in a guest house in Field?
From there we drive over several days to Vancouver - we plan to stop for a day of rafting on Fraser River on the way. Again - any really special places to stay, that are worth the extra money? Thanks.
