Just wondering folks..now that we have decided to fly to Calgary and make our way to Banff from there... where is a good central hotel..mid-priced...? we will be there in february
I think I may need to do some shopping...possibly for some cheap boots...not skiing but something I can walk around in...Im thinking Calgary may offer better shopping than Banff?
I have read that the airport hotel...the best western is good but maybe itd be better to stay downtown ?
I suspect we will only have the morning...want to get to Banff in daylight
Is Calgary a happening place in winter? Im thinking I could catch a bus back from Banff if theres good shopping/ sightseeing to be done
thanks!

You might want to invest in some good quality winter boots or you may not enjoy your time outdoors. It can get REALLY cold in February! Order some Australia Uggs online or purchase in one of the Calgary Malls if you want toasty feet. Banff and Canmore both have great apparel shopping especially for outer wear.
I hesitate to recommend lodging in Calgary, but the airport hotels would not be my choice.
There is always something going on in Calgary - theatre, 2 step lessons at the Ranchman's (even just to watch is fun), live Blues in Inglewood, NHL hockey...what do you like to do?
Not sure coming back in to Calgary would be time well spent, particularly in winter road conditions as it is a 90 minutes trip each way. Better to spend the time exploring,,, ypu'll find the shops easy enough but take the time to wander through the Banff Springs Hotel, or get a spa treatment in the WIllow Springs Spa, check out Grizzley House for a Fondue, explore the Canmore Nordic Centre, Whyte Museum in Banff.
