Bromont - a perfect getaway

We just got back from one of our mini biking/wine tasting getaways to rural Quebec. This time we chose to stay in Bromont, a small ski/golf/biking town about 90 minutes east of Montreal. Bromont may be the ideal vacation getaway - it's got a moderate sized ski mountain for mountain biking and hiking, amazing road biking on the 20+ mile flat, paved Estriade bike path, and 4 golf courses in town. In addition, the town is a somwhat upscale, neat as a pin resort village with plenty of outlet stores, restaurants, and llittle shops. Every store, motel and street looked like it was just freshly scrubbed and landscaped. I know I'm sounding like I work for the chamber of commerce, but I'm amazed that no tourists from the US have discovered this area. Just south of Bromont are miles and miles of mostly flat country roads that are a road bikers dream, sprinkled with wineries, apple orchards, vast farms, and tiny villages. You can park your car in one of these villages and bike for hours, seeing very little traffic. Since we purchased wines at the local vinyards, we wanted to dine at BYOB restaurants. Unfortunately Bromont's only BYOB establishment was closed, so we dined in nearby Granby, Cowansville, and Bedford. Granby is a medium sized city with dozens of restaurants (many BYOB), malls, the trailhead for the Estriade, and the Granby Zoo. Cowansville is a slightly smaller commecial city, and Bedford is a small town 13 miles from the Vermont border with a very good Thai restaurant.
We can't wait until next spring, when we can again visit this touch of France just north of us!

Bromont sounds like a real find, zootsi. Thanks for sharing. The surrounding area with the country roads and tiny villages, etc., sounds idyllic -- like Vermont, one of my favorite places.

I've been wanting to take a road trip to Quebec/Montreal for a long time now, so when I go I'll definitely consider Bromont.

Thanks for the report. We haven't explored Bromont yet but it sounds promising.

Just wanted to refresh - we just got back from our 3rd trip to the Bromont area this year. It was wine harvest, and the Ridge winery was doing a crush with bare feet day. Lots of singing (in French), drinking wine and stomping grapes. We brought some family up with us this time and they also loved the area. We did a beautiful bike ride along the Yamaska River just outside Bromont, rest of family hiked Bromont. Great dinners at the Casa Greque (byob) in Granby and David and Goliath in Bromont. Can't wait to go back next spring!
