Border Crossing B.C. to Washington State

Hello - so I was coming back from Vancouver a couple of days ago, using the border crossing at Aldergrove/Lynden because the Peace Arch one is usually so crowded. Anyway, the Aldergrove border crossing was pretty tough too (ultimately took 45 minutes, which seems like a lot at 11 am on a weekday). I noticed that a lot of people behind me took a look at the length of the line and turned around. Question: where were they going? Is there some kind of shortcut I don't know about? I know about the Sumas crossing, but it's sort of out of the way and doesn't seem to be any faster.

Maybe there were going to try the truck crossing on Pacific Highway (Blaine)

I do not think that 45 minutes, at Lynden, at 11:00am, in late July, coming IN to the U.S. is especially out of the ordinary.

It was a good move to take that step of opting for Lynden.

As for the truck crossing, with so much technology (almost reliable) in the way of signs that tell you the border crossing times while on approach, so you can pick and choose among the two alternatives, it is still probable that your wait time will be similar in both spots.

I don't know why people (tourists especially) don't build their itinerary in Canada to either return really late in the evenings/nights, or extremely early in the mornings.

I'm thinking that maybe the bridge collapse on I-5 has given some people a trip plan for the Aldergrove crossing? I've been watching the border crossing times via WDOT, and noticed that the crossing times have escalated there.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey, that's a good possibility, although with the bottleneck so far south, Sumas would perhaps be affected more so, relatively speaking.

They were probably going further east to Sumas/Abbotsford crossing. I would.
