B&B's in Vancouver and Victoria
Hi. I'm planning a trip to the area for the week of June 8-16. My girlfiend and I will fly into Vancouver and would like to avoid renting a car for the whole week. Rather, we'd like to rely on a combination of ferries, busses, bike rentals to get around.
My questions:
Could folks recommend safe, reasonably priced B&B's centrally located near attractions, nightlife, mass transportation in Vancouver, Victoria and any worthwhile BC Ferry Destination?
We'd also like to take a guided kayaking tour. Will we be able to get to a kayaking outfitter w/o having to rent a car?
Finally, I've heard horror stories about 10+ hour waits for ferries. Should we expect such long waits even though we won't be travelling by car and will limit our ferry travel to weekdays (Mon-Friday)? Also, is the travel a problem for people prone to sea sickness?
Sorry for the lengthy inquiry. Don't feel the need to answer all these questions. A good answer to any one of them would be invaluable.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

My husband and I recently spent 6 days in Vancouver and Victoria (not long enough!) and only rented a car to get around Vancouver Island, outside of Victoria. We took a bus from downtown Vanc. to downtown Victoria with Pacific Coach Lines (www.pacificcoachlines.com). Very convenient and these busses don't have to wait in the lines at the ferry so you're guaranteed to get on the one you want. We walked all around d/t Vanc and Victoria with no trouble, the distances are very small. As to kayaking, I can't answer that, hopefully someone else here can.

We stayed at Marketa's B&B (it's on the web but I don't know the address) in Victoria. It's close to the inner harbour, and was very charming, but not luxurious. In Vancouver we stayed in the Quality Hotel on Howe St., so can't recommend a B&B there. Enjoy!

This hotel was awesome, and far exceeded my expectations, given that it's not necessarily known as a luxury chain of hotels! The room was very nice (view not so good, but you're probably not going to spend much time peering out the window anyway!). The price was $99 per night(Cdn) for 2 adults, king-size bed, and that price included breakfast.

The service was excellent. In fact the service everywhere in BC was remarkable - it's obviously a province that places high value on it's tourism industry. The location of this hotel was very good, within walking distance to the seawall and the water taxis over to Granville Island. About a 10 minute walk to Robson St., and about 20-25 min along the seawall to Stanley Park.

I don't know the website, but search under "Inn at False Creek" and you should find it.
