We're driving up from Manchester, NH and will stop our first night in Belfast, Maine.
Second night in St Andrews NB. (We originally planned to go further and stay at the Inn at the Cove in St John but have read such bad reviews of that city.) Where would you recommend we stay in St Andrews or surrounding area?
Next day, we plan to spend the day going up the Fundy Trail, seeing the high and low tides, Fundy Nat'l Park, and the Hopewell Rocks. We'd like to stay somewhere at the top of the Bay since we're heading to PEI next day. Where do you recommend for nice moderate waterfront lodging?

There are quite a few attractive B&Bs in St. Andrews. We've enjoyed the Harris Hatch Inn.
If money is no object, you might want to try the Kingsbrae Arms. The Fairmont Algonquin is a historic railway hotel, but I can't vouch for the accommodations.
can't recommend places to stay but think you've made a wise choice not staying in saint john (not st john which is on newfoundland).
with hopewell rocks, try to see the high tide first (only need about 1 hour in the park) and then return for low tide and take more time.

We've decided to continue across into Nova Scotia instead of PEI. With that change in mind, where would you recommend we stay? One night near the bottom of the Bay coming up from Maine, the second night towards the top of the Bay heading to (or in) NS.

Nova Scotia is a better tourist trip than PEI.
PEI is great for those who have and want to take the time, but Nova Scotia slaps you with nature, while PEI makes you go off and find it away from the booming metropolis that is Charlottetown. (then charges you $38 to leave the island)
