My wife and I are heading to Banff at Thanksgiving. Anyone know what kind of weather we'll run into? I know they'll have snow at the higher elevations, but will there be snow at the lower elevations, i e, on the streets, etc.? I know that the average temperature should be in the 40s(F) during the day; at least, that's for Calgary. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have never been there in November, but I would bet there will be snow in the streets because even the low elevations are high elevations there. I grew up in the mountain areas of northern Utah and snow in November was not unusual. If you move farther north with the increase in elevation it is even more likely. When we visited Banff in July a few years ago we experienced warm sunshine and freezing hail in the same afternoon. I would plan on cold and snow.
Thanks, Kathy.
We've been to Colorado and Wyoming in November, and have run into snow in some of the lower elevations from time to time. So, I thought the odds were pretty good that Banff would have snow. Part of the reason I was asking is that we're from the South, and we've been having an unusually hot summer. It's just too hard to fathom that ANYPLACE could be hot or have snow. Again, thanks.
David:
It is quite possible that there will be snow in Banff in November. While you folks in the south were fortunate enough to have a hotter summer than normal, most of Canada had a cooler than normal summer, and some places in Canada (including Calgary) have already experienced flurries.
I used to live in Calgary, and I recall there being no snow in the Banff townsite into mid-December a couple of winters ago. With the cooler temps, though, you can almost be assured that there will be snow. As for daily temperatures, Banff gets cooler than Calgary, so you can expect 5-10 degrees F less than what Calgary is expecting.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip - Banff & the Canadian Rockies are beautiful, especially with some snow on the peaks!
