Vancouver To Terrace
taking Hwy 5 is WAY out of your way. head toward Cache Creek and then north from Kamloops.
can be pretty slim pickings on the Yellowhead (Hwy 16) but you'll get rides eventually. getting thru Prince George can be a hassle.
