August in Whistler

My fiance and I are contemplating staying in Whistler for our honeymoon in August. We are looking for upscale accommodations at a reasonable price (our hotel budget maxes out at approximately US$350 per night). Any suggestions? Also, obviously the area is known for its winter activities. Is summer a good time to visit as well. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Whistler and the area all around it are beautiful in summer.

It offers all the activities that you would expect a mountain resort area to offer. Check out Whistler Blackcomb's summer page:

There are tons of outdoor activities available at Whistler in the summertime. And most hotels have great rates then too because it is a more popular winter destination. I just put a random August date in on the Four Seasons website, for instance, and it came back with a rate under $300 CDN, plus there's apparently a stay 2 nights get the third night free promotion you might be able to take advantage of.

Oddly enough, Whistler is actually busier in the summer than it is in the winter - in the winter there isn't actually all that much to do other than ski/board, whereas in the summer, there's no end of the activities available (zip-trecking, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, swimming, etc...)

We stayed at Edgewater Lake Lodge in Whistler (well, actually about 2km outside on a gorgeous lake with a view of the mountains). It is a relatively spartan accomodation with a good breakfast included and an excellent on site restaurant. We hiked, did the zip line, rafted, biked and generally had a spectacularly nice visit. Highly recommended. For our last night we stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport. Very very nice and lovely to just stroll down to our departure gates with no preflight hassle. It also has an excellent on site spa and restaurant. Just in case, like us you have a very early flight home. Best wishes on your wedding.

I would look also into condos. There
are stunning properties and much less expensive than a hotel. Try vrbo.com.
We've stayed at the Fairmont and it is gorgeous, especially on the concierge floor.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage, Aaron. You'll love Whistler! My trip August 4 summers ago wasn't as romantic (two kids in tow -ha!), but the area is way gorgeous with tons of things to do. Be sure to take the lift up to the glacier where there's lots of skiing in August! Of course, global warming might have changed that. Even if its sunny and 80 degrees at the base, be sure to take a warm sweater or jacket. The change in temp can be as much as 35 degree difference at the top!!

Just a thought: When we were there we had an Entertainment Book which cost us about $25.00. It had a handful of hotels and rental condos listed. I called around mid-June and was able to book a beautiful 2-suite hotel room in Whistler Village with a good view for about $150C. The going rate was more than $250C. It might be worth checking out Entertainment Book's webiste to see if they still have Whistler hotel/condo listings. You can spend the difference on your new bride at some of the myriad retail stores in the Village!
