Any last minute advice for Montreal and Quebec City? Heading there tomorrow!
Hi all,
Usually I do lots of research and make extensive plans when we travel, but it's been a very busy spring and it just didn't happen. So we have hotel reservations and a guide book and we'll play it by ear. But if you have any advice for fun stuff to see and do, it would be appreciated. We are 2 adult and 2 teens and we like museums, historical and cultural sites, and shopping. We're not into night life and gourmet dining. Our teens have traveled quite a bit and are not the sort that are bored by anything other than shopping and video games. We already plan to check out the Segway rental in Montreal which someone on this board suggested. My daughter has taken 4 years of French and hopes for the chance to practice her language skills. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

In Montreal, see the gorgeous Notre Dame cathedral where Celine Deion was married and take a hike through Mont Royal Park. The trail ends at a beautiful overlook high above the city. In Quebec City, see Montmorency Falls just outside the city. There's also a beautiful spot with some suspension bridges spanning a gorge. I think they call it the Grand Canyon. Also, take several hours (or an entire day) to drive the circular route around the Isle D'Orleans, full of quaint villages, roadside stands with fresh berries, and restaurants serving authentic Quebecois cuisine. You'll love it!

Also in Montreal, at the botanical gardens, there is an outstanding bug museum. Ordinarily, we are not "into" bugs, but the huge, unique, and beautiful specimens there are like something out of a fairy tale! You might also enjoy seeing the Olympic park.

You do realize that this is Jazz festival time. The downtown streets on and around St. Catherine will be packed with music fans. However - you and your teens will LOVE it. There noon to midnight free live concerts of every description, usually 2 or 3 going on at once. For a respite from the excitement, head over to Chinatown, the St. Dennis area or the Olympic Park complex.

The jazzfest crowd is a fun one ; this is a long holiday weekend in montreal and they are calling for great weather so walking around will be very pleasant.....
Let us know how your trip goes.
Sunday afternoons at Mt Royal is quite an experience (not for the faint of heart); the tamtams are on and people lay around and just hang out or walk through.....
