Accomodation in NL in June

Ok, we are gradually getting the Canada trip together. We are more inclined to visit Newfoundland now, than the west, though it could change again before anything is booked!
We would like know if it is necessary to book accomodation in June, or if we can, as we would prefer to, "wing it"? We prefer not to have anything booked so we have more freedom in where we go and how long we stay in an area. If booking is recommended then we may, reluctantly, decide on a pre-booked fly drive tour.

I went to NF a few years ago at the very end of June and beginning of July. Their tourist season doesn't really start until the weekend after Canada Day (July 1). Unless you REALLY want to stay at one place (lodging) in particular, you should have no trouble at all "winging it".

NF is a very large and spectacular place - you will have a great visit. If you can stay at B&Bs along the way to get a real sense of local flavour and hear their stories.

Enjoy-la!

Depends on where you are going. You may want to play it safe by making a few reservations. St. John's hosts a lot of conferences, so it may be difficult to find something. If you are driving and leaving the province through Port aux Basques, then definitely book accommodation if you are taking the early ferry.

Thanks. We will be flying into St John's and intend booking somewhere there. OH has been to St John's a couple of times before on business and loves it.
We will be exploring Avalon, and hope to get to Gros Morne and L’Anse aux Meadows. We realise it is a huge place so we are pretty relaxed about what we see - we'd rather stay a few days in one area than dash from place to place just so we can say we've been there. It is meant to be a holiday after all.

while visiting Gros Morne, we stayed at Hilltop B&B in Rocky Harbour. Ask to stay in their "outer building". It was more like a motel than a B&B. I remember having strawberry pancakes for breakfast - mmmm!
