6-day itinerary for Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper

Hello! We are planning a last minute trip to Calgary. We need recommendations for where to stay in Calgary (one night as our flight arrives at 11pm). We would like to see/do as much as possible, including waterfalls, glaciers, lakes, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and maybe even some fishing. (Has anyone ever gone snorkling with the Salmon?)

We want clean, affordable lodging, as we don't plan to spend too much time indoors! We originally planned to stay one night in Calgary, then drive the Icefield Parkway to Jasper, spend 2 nights there, then 3 nights in Banff or Lake Louise, then one more night in Calgary, as our flight leaves early in the morning on the next day. Will this be a good first trip to the area? Or, are we trying to do too much in such a short time? We really appreciate any advice! Thanks! Marcia and Dave

When are you going? July 1 is Canada Day and there are LOTS of tourists in the area you're visiting. Also the Calgary Stampede will be going on in Calgary and you may be limited in accommodation.

That said, your itinerary is definitely doable. The Icefields Parkway is phenomenal - be sure to stop at the Columbia Icefied and do a buggy tour, you get to walk on the glacier in designated areas, which is NOT recommended on your own, people have fallen into crevasses and froze to death.

Again, make your reservations now, not sure of your budget - the hotels are very expensive now as this is High Season in the Rockies.

Thank you! Yes, we will be there during the holiday. We are trying to find reservations now. Most places are booked, as we suspected! Any ideas on places to stay would be most helpful!
