Yasawa to Nadi: How much time should we leave to return??

My fiancee and I will be going to Fiji for our honeymoon in mid-January 2012, and we planned on staying one night in Nadi upon arrival, with the bulk of the time in the Yasawa Islands, returning to the airport on the same day as our international flight.

However, I'm reading that even returning to Nadi 2 days in advance might not be good enough in case there's inclement weather or a hurricane warning.

Has anyone had any experience with this? In January? What do you suggest? I wouldn't want to miss my flight back to the US... or would I... :)
