We are staying at a lovely farm outside Christchurch for 5 days and have decided to choose Te Anau as the second main base for our 2 week vacation. Given that the driving time between the two locations is about 9 hours, we thought we could do two extra places, for a couple of days each, between the 2 long drives back and forth. We were considering Dunedin and/or Queenstown but would welcome any suggestions on any other nice hotel in a pretty location in a small town in-between the two.
We are traveling with 2 kids aged 6 and 10, around Christmas. Our budget per night for the family could be up to USD350 a night.
Many thanks for your replies.
Where to stay between Christchurch and Te Anau?

spend some time at Queenstown on the way to Te Anau, and some time at Dunedin on way back to Christhurch. ^^
We stayed at Albatross Inn www.albatross.inn.co.nz/, it's a warm and cosy B&B.
That's at Dunedin.
Can't recommend for Queenstown or Te Anau as we stayed in hostels in our other destinations.
Deepasingapore- Could you share with us which lovely farm you are staying on outside of Christchurch? I'm always on the lookout for something different. Thanks.
As to where to stay btw there and Te Anau, what are you planning to see, so we would know more about your preferred route.
Thanks Chenoa and Susncrg. We are staying at Pete's farm outside Christchurch.
In terms of things we like doing, just charming location, beautiful scenery, maybe a quaint town area, some child friendly activity, nice hotel etc... are good for us!!
