Where to go for Honeymoon?

We are looking for a place in the South Pacific to spend part of our Honeymoon. We will be ther in mid Septemeber for 1 week and the other week will be in Austrailia. We want something pretty remote but would also like to be able to do things off of the resort (dinner, hiking, exploring) Tahiti seems overpriced and a little too cliche' for us. The Cook Islands sound promising as does Vanuatu. We would like to have some sort of beachfront accomodation, bungalow I guess. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

I'd go for the Cook Islands. There are several nice places with beachfront bungalows on Rarotonga. You could also go to Aitutaki, which is a more beautiful island, but less going on.

How about Fiji ? Lots of lovely beach places there for you to relax as well as break your journey. I have been in September and loved it. Also went to Vanuatu once and it was nice too. Very laid back and not a lot to do but that may be what you would want on your honeymoon ?

Steeler,
We were in Vanuatu for a wedding last July - and while it was very nice and we all had a great time - it does not compare (in my opinion) with the beauty and appeal of the Cook Islands, Fiji etc.

Have to agree with prue. Fiji is prettier than Vanuatu although I enjoyed both.

Pearl Beach Resort in Bora Bora (set on a private motu) was amazing. We went on our honeymoon (3 nights overwater bungalow/3 nights beach front) and had a glorious time. It was in May 2000. In fact, for our next vacation, I keep trying to recreate my Bora Bora experience by planning a visit to the Caribbean, which will never happen, because nothing compares to Bora Bora! But, if you think Tahiti may be too cliche, then maybe Cook Islands (which are cheaper, right?) or the Maldives??? Both look very nice. Good luck!

Have a look at Uepi Island. www.uepi.com

It's a beautiful, remote (a bit tricky to get to but worth it) island on the edge of the Marovo Lagoon. Lagoon beach on one side, 2000m drop off on the other side. Fantastic diving/snorkelling - turtles, sharks, giant clams just off the jetty. They even had Orcas there a couple of weeks before we were there.

We went there for 10 days in October and got engaged. We absolutely loved it!

i'd recommend the Cook Islands. We experienced great people and culture, plenty to see and do on Rarotonga. Aitutaki is perfect for a honeymoon getaway there not many places like it left around the world. In terms of where to stay there are many options on both islands all depends on what your budget is. We went ultra budget in Rarotonga and stayed at a place called Varas <www.varas.co.ck> it was ok given it only costed NZ$90 per night and in Aitutaki we went for the other extreme and experienced it in ultra luxury at a fantastic Small Luxury Hotels of the World resort called Pacific Resort Aitutaki <www.pacificresort.com> we paid about NZ$1,000 per night and was worth every penny...
