Hi,
I know there is a lot of information on whale watching available but I happened to find a tour in Fodors north of Sydney for only $35. And it was guarantied. Problem is we may decide not to tour sydney on account we are worried the weather may be too cold and we dont want to carry a lot of extra wool for only a fraction of our trip.
Anyway, I was curious if anyone knew any cheap tours in the Cairns area to see Whales and if Cairns was even a good place to see them?
Thanks and any other advice will be great.
still very early in the planning process.

July/September are best times out of Cairns. Heaps of close-up sightings last year from reef boats, mostly humpbacks, including the albino Migaloo. Reef Magic has run special whale sighting trips for the last couple of years in this time frame - www.reefmagiccruises.com/whale-watching-tours-cairns/
While Cairns might not be the best whale watching site in the world it is reasonably reliable at that time of year. See my experience here http://alanswildlife.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Make sure you carry a light coat for Cairns anyway if you are going out on the water and up to the Tablelands.
Cairns act as the primary gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. It is a beautiful place to visit. I stopover there last year and had awesome experience.
