Volunteer Work in Samoa & Tonga

My husband and I are going to Tonga and Samoa in the middle of November this year - we would really like to do some volunteer work with people and the environment but all the opportunities I have found ask that you pay in the region of £1000 - does anyone know of any charities that we could work for free of charge? We are happy to donate our time and energy to good causes and our money but we would like to be able to choose the amount we donate and know that it is going to those that really need it.

Any help would be gratefully received.
