We are interested in taking an extensive trip of Australia and New Zealand next summer (with perhaps a stopover in Tahiti). We would like to be there close to four weeks. Can anyone recommend a tour operator. Has anyone used Globus? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You don't say whether you want to travel with a group or independently. I believe Globus only does group tours, as does Tauck (more expensive). And there aren't many companies that do long tours as you mentioned 4-wks.
You can check with Swain Australia (Division of Far and Wide) who can arrange group or independent tours (they're better with the latter I feel) for Australia, New Zealand, and most of the islands in the Pacific, including Tahiti
Ed,
you really need to decide, as someone else pointed out, if you want the "regiment" of travelling on a tour bus or independently.
That said, I would not recommend Globus, a company I'm very familiar with. Australia is NOT their baliwick and there are far better tour operators out there for this part of the world.
Tauck is worth every penny -- yes, they are expensive, and they are worth it. I've never had a client complain. Swain is excellent too.

G'day Ed,
of course there is also another option for you. Surf the Net for a while and look for flights, accommodation, local tours and information that's not available in glossy brochures.
Then orgainze it yourself. You'll have the benefit of getting to know more about the areas you wish to travel, the best times for different areas and very important - you'll realize that even with 4 weeks at your disposal you won't be able to see it "All" - no matter what others tell you!
Australia is a big country, check it here: http://www.redcentre.com.au/photos/us_on_aust2.jpg
For example, when I take people from Melbourne to Darwin we usually take 23 days and from Perth to Darwin, 30 days !!!
But then of course we go Off the Beaten Track and not just along the highways.
Enjoy your visit to Australia,
Mike.
