This special community - Fodorville

Last week I was in a search for some passionfruit syrup for a special cocktail we wanted to make for Thanksgiving. Turns out, the shipping costs for the syrup were pretty steep and I wasn't wiling to pay three times the price of the syrup just to get it here for Thanksgiving. A sweet Fodor's friend sent me an email saying she would order it with her Amazon Prime and it would arrive in time. I agreed and asked for her address to send her a check. The syrup arrived today and this same Fodor's friend now says just do a favor in return for someone else and is not providing her address for that check. Well, I just love paying things forward so I will definitely be acting on her request. And how lovely to extend herself to someone she has met just once. (Yes, at a wonderful Fodor's GTG.)

This got me thinking about all the people here on Fodor's who have enriched my life this year. So, I'd like to say thank you to my "passionfruit friend" as well as:

1. To all who cheered me on as I finished my degree and took my boards and squared up a job. Thanks for your support and for listening ad nauseum to me about it the last 3 years. And keeping me company as I plugged away.

2. To all who "walked along with me" as I walked the Camino. You really all were there as I walked around that cliff edge.

3. To Jubi for great conversation and a pretty awesome BLT back in September.

4. To all those kind people on the Australia/NZ board who at the last minute jumped in to help me plan a pretty big trip in just 3 short days. I love your part of the world and I thank you all. It was great fun to have you all follow along that month.

5. To MissB who took a day off to show me lovely Melbourne. A real treat.

6. To Bokhara - who did the same in Sydney. Thank you! Hope to see you and MissB in NY one of these days.

7. To those who commiserated when I was worried about my daughter (who by the way is home and full of joy and delight and decidedly back to her old self). To all who commiserate when commiseration is needed!

8. To those who bring the humor and kindness and travel (and other) advice to this place day in and day out. I appreciate all of you very much!

With gratitude from your pal gruezi

aaahh - Gruezi.

it shines through from everything you write that you are a lovely warm person, who brings out the best in your fellow fodorites [some of whom are also pretty special as I have cause to know too.]

i'm sure I'm not the only one who loved reading about your last minute trip, the highs and the lows.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving, passionfruit cocktail and all!

Our Australian cousins are a breed apart. We had a GTG in Sydney last month. Could not believe that folks trained, planed into see a stranger. Good on you, Aussies.

Love,
American Cheryl

I hear you loud and clear Gruezi,
I too recognize how special we are. Even though I don't post very much, I'm here almost every day and have been for years and years now.

Cheryl, has it only been a month? It was great to meet you all . I'm hoping to make it back next year so as soon as I know when I am hoping we can do it again.

And yes, the trip report will come before New Years

Ahotpoet: We were at the Opera Bar when your ship sailed. Did you see us waving?

Yes, a fabulous GTG. I walked in knowing no one but left with great stories. And , I would pick up again next time. Read always, sometimes just need to comment but always here.
