The Lord Nelson or Chelsea B & B

Any recommendations or preferences for the Lord Nelson Brewery (The Rocks) vs. the Chelsea Bed & Breakfast (in Darlinghurst)?

They're totally different experiences.

The Lord Nelson is a small hotel in Sydney's oldest brewery in the Rocks. Accommodation upstairs, downstairs bistro, bar etc. Just a few minutes to Circular Quary & the heart of the city.

The Chelsea is a guesthouse in a large terrace (French Provincial in style) in a quiet inner city residential street.

Both have excellent recommendations - it's really a matter of what you're looking for in terms of style and location.

Have you seen the websites for both of them?

thanks for your thoughts and comparisons.
we ended up contacting The Lord Nelson but the only room available is close to $200 Aus. so we are hoping to get thru (by phone) to the Chelsea to see if they have anything available in a lower room rate. we are having trouble getting a response by phone or email, so we will keep trying. we have heard very good reviews.

It's a charming place, nanabee. I stayed there one night last month and Lavici stayed there for about a week. The people who run it are very helpful and will go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one.

They don't have a 24 hour reception etc., so you just need to allow for the time difference if you're coming from a different zone. They're usually available 10 am - 5pm AEST.

They don't have telephones in the rooms, but there is one in an alcove in the sitting room, along with a computer, for guests' use.

If you have a choice, ask for Room 2. It has lovely French doors opening to a sunny courtyard, where there is a table & chairs for breakfast, or an afternoon tipple.

It's in a great location, zillions of excellent restaurants nearby, and only about 30 minute walk down to Circular Quay. One lovely walk is across William Street, through the park to the Art Gallery of NSW (good restaurant and coffee shop) and then through the Botanical Gardens (also nice restaurant there) to the Opera House.

I know that area pretty well, so if you need to know anything, just ask.
