Taxi fare from Sydney Airport

What is the approximate taxi fare from Sydney airport to Darling Harbor? Are there tax-vans that would hold 5 passengers with luggage?

Cee:
our cabfare from syd to downtown was $20-30 (australian). there is a shuttle that you can use (i don't recall the name). we took it back to the airport which was only $8/each and it carried 8 people.

$20-30$ sounds about right

Please be very careful at Sydney airport, like so many airports these days there are a lot of questionable touts about.

We were there in April and we got a tout. I knew the going rate so we weren't ripped off (i think), the guy was a nice chap, but the vehicle was a bit tatty and he dropped us at the end of driveway into the hotel.

Coming back we got the hotel to order us a cab - immaculate, clean door to door - same price.

If you're talking five people and a lot of luggage, $AUD30 sounds closer to the mark than $AUD20; I would regard it as a minimum, rather than a maximum. Then again, I'm by no means an expert on taxis, as I always use an alternative means of transport. There is a shuttle bus, as stated above -- several of them, in fact, and they're easy to find -- just look to the bus rank on your right as you walk out of the terminal doors. There is also a train to the city, but it is far more expensive than other suburban trains, so for five people you'd really be paying more than for a taxi... UNLESS you have children in the group. In Sydney, on public trains and buses, children travel for half price, and you only pay for one child.

A final option, if the taxi quotes don't match what you've been advised above, is to take the blue government bus (route 400) to Bondi Junction. It's generally almost empty, so you'd probably have little trouble stowing your luggage in the space designated for this. From Bondi Junction you could get a taxi to your hotel door for a few dollars. The bus will cost about $AUD3 per adult, half for a child (only pay for one), so you can easily work out which is the more economical proposition for you.

There are a number of airport to city shuttle bus companies, some more reputable than others (!), but one that I seem to see more often than not is: www.kst.com.au , all the info you need is there.

As for Alan's (well-meaning I'm sure) suggestion of getting the 400 bus to Bondi Junction then a taxi - well, given that Cee is staying at Darling Harbour Alan, I don't know that THAT is such a good suggestion !

Hi Cee
Last December we arrived at Sydney and bought a return ticket on the KST Sydney Airporter which leaves from just outside the terminal.
It was really good value at $13.00 each or $52 for us all return, we just had to call them the day before we needed to be collected to be returned to the airport. Door to door service at a reasonable price. There were 4 of us and loads of bags.
I guess the price will be slightly higher now but still well worth the cost.

Thanks for all the input. Since there are 5 of us,(adults) with luggage, it is almost a wash between private taxi and shuttle. Are there taxis that can hold 5 plus luggage (taxi vans) or would we need 2 taxis, in which case the cost would be much more. Are there usually long taxi queues?

Oh I forgot to mention the KST Sydney Airporter are fleets of mini busses and coaches which would be fine for 5 of you.As the mini bus carries about 12.

Hi Cee,

I found this site for you.

http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/Sydn...i+Services.htm.

btw I rarely see big taxis, they are mainly sedan and take 4 pax. They do have them though, you need to see kerbside attendant but I would be open minded to taking 2 taxis or a shuttle if I were you.

Request a maxi-taxi when you get to the queue - that will take all of you and all your luggage.
