Tasmania Freycinet area

Jump to last reply

Have planned 11 days in Tasmania - 2 nights in Launceston, 2 nights Cradle Mt, 1 night Strahan, 3 nights Hobart.......Looking for suggestions for 2 nights: Swansea or Bicheno or ?? then we leave from Launceston.

My adult daughter and I just got back from 16 days in Tasmania last night. We flew in and out of Hobart so we did a circle tour of spending time in Hobart, then two nights down in Port Arthur, then three nights in Swansea to visit Freycinet, two nights in Launceston, two nights at Cradle Mountain, back to Launceston area by the airport and our last night by the Hobart airport.
We stayed at Swansea Beach Chalets in Swansea. There are 6 front units (with many of the other units having a partial ocean view) that are overlooking the ocean and the Freycinet Park. It was a wonderful place with great facilities, views to die for ,etc. It was about 40-45 minutes to the park station in the park. You pass several of the top vineyards like Milton and Devil's Corners while you drive over there. There was more of a town feel to us in Swansea in regards to real restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Bicheno seemed more like the summer resort feel.
If you do go to Freycinet and Cradle, just buy the $60 8 week park pass as it will allow you to go to all parks with unlimited amount of people in any car versus the daily rate. I would also highly recommend taking the Wineglass Cruise which you pick up in Coles Bay and runs from around 10am to 2pm. It includes coats and narrative over all the park by water to Wineglass Bay There they stop and you enjoy complimentary fresh oysters, champagne, beer, juice and a cheese platter. It was very nice!
Let me know if you want any other recommendations-have fun!
