I am looking at going to either Fiji or Tahiti/Moorea.

If I went to Tahiti/Moorea I want to stay in an Overwater Bungalow at the Intercontinental, Pearl or Sheraton.

I have also looked at Fiji. From what I can tell there are no overwater bungalows in Fiji, so I would get a Ocean view room.

Could you please give me some direction on which islands would be nicer to stay at, more economical, better beaches etc.

In general, there are nicer beaches in the Society Islands (FP) - many Fijian beaches are muddier with shallow slopes, exposing mud flats at low tide. While there may not be any overwater bungalows in Fiji, there are plenty of higher-end accommodations with spectacular oceanfront views. I think that Fiji has a much greater range and choice of accommodations, compared to Moorea & Tahiti. My experience is also that the equivalent rooms are substantially less in most Fiji locations, and that in general, everything is comparatively less expensive as well.

Given the choice, I would go to Fiji (specifically Yasawa islands, Vanua Levu, or Taveuni) instead of Tahiti/Moorea; although I have little direct experience with higher-end accommodations in either locale.

I want to top this question also. I know Tahiti is known as paradise but hoe does Fiji compare. Pricewise and bueaty?

Fiji is way less expensive that FP. On another thread here the reality of the $30.00 breakfast and the $25.00 hamburger in FP was discussed. In 2001 when we were in Fiji the 3 of us had wonderful dinners for a total of $50.00 combined! Jet skiing was $22.00 just to give you another idea. I bought a 3 round golf card at the Sheraton for $100.00. Conversely last summer 1 round in Hawaii at Mauna Kea was $175.00. We loved Fiji. I do not think it has the same natural beauty as FP but it is stilla beautiful So. pac. island and the people are very friendly.

My experience in Fiji was back in '88 and again in '92. People were very friendly there and it was such a peaceful place to vacation.

I was in Tahiti/Bora Bora this past Sept and did not think it was nearly so friendly. Also, IMHO, it is too touristy... but very beautiful. It was not the "paradise" I thought it was going to be. I also visited the Cook Islands in Sept and found that I liked them a lot more than Tahiti and Bora Bora. I would easily return to the Cook Islands!

Fiji is beautiful, but don't stay on the mainland if you want the true Fijian experience. The islands are the only way to go. High end, Vatulele Island is very popular at the moment. Quite spectacular really. You will never find people as relaxed and genuinely friendly as Fijians. You won't ever regret a Fiji holiday.
