Sydney fashionistas
Final packing decisions underway for our first trip to OZ -- what is appropriate clothing for Sydney in late Oct?
NY Black?
LA glitz?
Capris, shorts, or long pants (women)?
Nikes or Manolos?
Eddie Bauer or Dolce & Gabana?

I would really feel put out if I were in Sydney and visiters did not bring along their Dolce & Gabana, Diane Gilman at least & Jones of NY. Sydney is too nice to have hobos running around you know.
Seriously..... you wear what you feel good in and what you like, a pair of thongs ( the ones you wear on your feet that is ) shorts from Best and Less and you can make your best scarf double as a cover up for your Bristol cities!

you know what is hilarious? despite the fact that the predominant coloring i observed on many australian office workers tended towards fair skin and light hair, they still wore unflattering (for them) black all the time in sydney! i walked around thinking: you would all look so much better in light colors!
day time capri pants (i don't know what capri shorts are) are the tourist uniform. sneakers are comfy footwear. a t-shirt with a sweater in case a chill breeze comes up. if you are taking the ferry to manly, maybe bring a fleece for the cold ride home at night.
as for the other questions, whatever is your normal "uniform" at home will absolutely work. sydney is a modern city and people dress in whatever they like, although i cannot recall observing "sex and the city" type "fashion" anywhere.
if your "special outfit" is going to be a burden to carry- don't take it along to impress anyone, because chances are excellent that no one will notice! besides, there is great aussie fashion to buy in sydney and you may want to pick up something fresh ahd show it off while you're there. (i always buy tons of clothes in sydney and mail them home to myself).

I'm afraid Sydney is still a bit of a black city (I almost bought my 8th pair of black pants yesterday, and had to speak severely to myself...)
Glitz you can probably keep - our natural setting is spectacular enough - so we don't go in for personal show that much.
Shorts - if you must - a lot of tourists seem to wear them.
Nikes or Manolos - whatever you like - Sydney is a walking city - how are you with 4 inch heels?
Eddie Bauer - who??? D&G is acceptable.
Late October is a good time of year - late spring. The weather should be good (today has been magnificent!)
We finally had a little rain this week, although we're still technically in drought.
So - ordinary clothes, sweater of something to keep warm, perhaps light rain jacket.
Really - no one cares...just aim for comfort and convenience.

Ah, but Andrew - apart from my lovely Black Bob (who since you saw him has become remarkably grizzled and grey around the muzzle area, rather like Mike) you may remember that we do have poodles in more festive colours. We have tropical white, silver/blue (well thats on her papers, but she does look more grey than anything) and an extremely glamorous, if aged, labradoodle with soft blonde curly locks - well for a couple of hours after she's had a bath.
