Saltwater Apartments in Port Douglas, Australia

Has anyone had first hand experience with Salt Water Apartments in Port Douglas? They look quite nice, but I can't seem to find any reviews.

Any comments on Mandalay/Shalimar Apartments would be welcome as well.

Thanks in advance!

I have only seen Saltwater Apartments from the outside. They look very modern and are situated right in the middle of town. They would be very handy to shops, restaurants and supermarket but a 5 minute walk to the beach. We stayed at Mandalay Apartments 2 years ago.A nice apartment complex around a smallish pool.We had a 3 bedroom apartment which was comfortable and spacious.Only complaint was the furnishings in out apartment were a bit tired. When I mentioned this to manager when we were checking out he said that some of the apartments are privately owned and furnished by the owners and they were aware that our apartment needed updating. We were paying 5 star rates and would have expected more consistent accomodations.
Position is good near beach but a6-7 minute walk into town.
Hope this helps!

Thanks shooshy. We're going to go ahead and book the two bedroom penthouse at Saltwater. The contemporary style fits us perfectly. I'll post comments when I return for future travelers.

Hi there,
Another one worth looking at is "The Point Apartments" at Port Douglas. They are beatifully decorated with timber floors and teak furniture, they have a balinese feel about them. The Pool area is beautiful. Perfect place for a romantic getaway. We spent a week there on our honeymoon a few years ago.

We enjoyed our 5 night stay at Saltwater while in Port Douglas. We found the apartment to be well appointed and clean. The penthouse afforded a great view of the mountains and wharf. John and Carolyne were pleasant as well as informative. The apartments are centrally located to shops and dining. We enjoyed Zinc, Salsa and Michaelangelo for dinner. The other two places we had dinner were not good at all - sorry, forgot the names. 4 Mile Beach is about a 5 minute walk and the wharf for reef access is about a 10 minute walk.

I sheduled a snorkel trip with Wavelength and a trip to Daintree with Tony's Tropical Tours prior to our vacation and we enjoyed both trips. We did not get to make it to Bloomfield Falls as the last river was too high to cross in order to reach the falls.

Try Verandas which is really nice and new and depends on the time of the year some really great rates. We stayed there a few weeks ago in a 2br aprt for $105. Just around the corner from the main street. Salsa is a great restaurant with great service and food. Zinc is ok - though there wine list is pretty ordinary. My other complaint was that we were put at a table right alongside the footpath (even though they weren't busy) which was really annoying bu inthe end we moved. The other place to eat is Mango Jam - casual food and good prices. Enjoy
