Hello! Last minute possible trip this Jun! Need some leads and tips on how to get started.

1. I know I need to get to Alice Springs. What's the best way a nd from where - Adelaide ? Perth ? Darwin ???

2. As I'm traveling solo , and don't want to drive around in the center by myself, I'll join a tour. Any recommendations ? I'm an independent traveler, looking for some thing easy and casual, nothing too fancy, okay with staying in backpackers' places, and would probably want to experience sleeping under the stars (swagging???).

3. Am I crazy to go there in June ?How cold will it be?

Hi Eric, I have been travelling alone in AUS for many years, it's easy, safe and a brilliant experience, you will love it! The only think you must be prepared for the huge distances! The Red Centre (ULURU) you can drive on your own it's an easy drive on sealed roads (440km one way). You can fly from Adelaide to Alice Springs and hire a car or get onto the GHAN train (2days/2nights). I write about Australia check out my site/blog for solo independent travellers to AUS. What's your entry point to Australia?
There are flights to Uluru from a number of places, although I think Alice Springs & environs is very worthwhile & a great entry to The Red Centre.

There are myriad tours you could do, either short tours from Alice Springs, basically taking in Kings Canyon, Uluru & Kata Tjuta - or those taking longer & exploring surrounding regions.

It really boils down to your interests, available time & budget. A cursory google of Alice Springs/ Uluru will bring up a selection to get you started.

However, if you can drive, & have some time, I'd encourage you to rent a car & explore at your leisure, perhaps taking a short tour here & there to specific areas.

June will be a good time to go - better to be there then - rather than in summer. We visited during a very cold June one year but I still would prefer that to being there in the hot weather. You'll love it and as Bokhara mentioned you can fly directly into Uluru.

Thank you all. I appreciate it. Checked out the web based onyour comments..looks like I need to go somewhere else! I think I'll go when I have some travel companions -- looks like more fun for group travel. I'm doing solo th is time!
