Reasonable rental accommodation Sydney or surrounds!!

Jump to last reply

My son-in-law currently living in New York is going to be doing a Masters of Music at Sydney Consevatorium of Music starting next week. Because this is a research degree Australian and New Zealand citizens don't have to pay fees but obviously DSIL still has rent, food etc to pay. He is looking for accommodation in the area, but as he only has one face to face class per week he doesn't necessarily have to be close by.

From the research he has done it seems like a room in a house is about $ 200 so he is now looking at living in the Blue Mountains where it is cheaper. (By the way my DD is not going with him, she has a 4 month music gig at the Park Hyatt in South Korea from mid October). They will meet up when DSIL has finished this next semester. Just wondering if any of the Fodorites who live in Sydney have any suggestions as to where he might found a cheap place to live, that isn't in a very rough neighbourhood, and may not be as far away as the Blue Mountains. He would like to be able to play some gigs while he is there, and also teach some adult guitar students, so being closer if probably a better move. He would prefer a place on his own, will not have a car.
