Re-visiting Australia after 20 years-what's the biggest changes I'll see?
Planning to go back to Australia next year for three weeks. Twenty years ago we landed in Townsville and stayed one week in Barrier Reef area and then to Canberra (relatives used to live there) and on to Sydney for a week. We'd like to re-do the northern leg and
Sydney part of the trip...any suggestions as to what to do the other week since we have no reason to go to Canberra? Are we going to be shocked by the changes?
Well, when you live here, it's probably difficult to notice much change. Townsville is much larger I guess; and there's more development on Magnetic Island. There's talk that it will develop even further.

In general terms, after returning to Australia from a long time living overseas, in my city the thing I most noticed was the proliferation of bistros and outdoor eating type casual restaurants.

For the other week of your trip, can I suggest Tasmania? I've never been, and am planning to go next year. My research shows a lot of interesting things to do there, and it looks very beautiful. There are other people on this board who have been there and can give you some advice.
