Question Regarding Tahiti, Bora Bora, and the "Wildlife"

Hi. I am planning a trip for July of this year. I had a question for anyone who has been to French Polynesia. Are there geckos in most of the rooms, or are overwater bungalows free of them? I am considering some decent places, like AmanResorts and Sofitel, and while the geckos don't bother me at all, my fiance freaks out at them. Are the geckos only in the dumpy hotels, or in the beach rooms, and is there any hope of escaping them?!

Can't speak for others, but we saw no "wildlife" in our OW bungalow at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach. Plenty of them on land though. My wife had a TINY (1 inch long - including the tail) one land on her arm during dinner at the PBR restaurant. The waiter was worried my wife would freak out, but instead she was fascinated. It was soooooo tiny and cute. Of course my wife tends to like lizards - except of course the much larger one that pee'd on her while suspended from the ceiling in our 2nd (somewhat buggy) rental house in the Cooks. Pretty funny in hindsight - though obviously she didn't think so at the time.

Thanks for the insight. Anyone else's opinions would be most appreciated!

My husband and I went to French Polynesia for our honeymoon two years ago. We found lizards inhabiting all the rooms we stayed in - overwater bungalow at the Sheraton Moorea, beach bungalow at the Tahaa Pearl Beach, and overwater at Bora Bora Sofitel Motu. There weren't that many of them; just occasionally we'd see one in the rafters. They are very skittish and rather afraid of humans. Personally, I like lizards, so they weren't a problem for me. Further, I very much dislike cockroaches and big scary spiders and was thus comforted by the lizards' presence, knowing they would eat the things I am afraid of.

We were in TP in Feb 2005 for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Papeete Sheraton and the Moorea Sheraton (OWB) and we ate at both hotels (indoors and outdoors). We never saw any 'wildlife' at either hotel and we walked the grounds at both places and spent a day at the pool.

I was in moorea at the pearl beach and the overwater bungalow in tahaa last july and did not have any problems with any kind of lizards/spiders/mosquitos etc. With the exception of some ants in our beach bungalow (moorea). So unless we just didn't see them, I have none to report! Don't worry! You're going to love it!
