Queenstown NZ for an oldie
I'm visiting Queenstown NZ for a week in January and wonder if anyone here can suggest activities and attractions for an oldie.It seems the town is well suited for sporty types but what about more sedate things?Any thoughts?

I'm certainly no spring chicken and I have no troubles finding things to do in Queenstown. I like to walk and there are many nice tracks in/around QT, some easy, some more difficult.
I also enjoy a good glass of grape and there are dozens of wineries to visit in the area.
You might be interested in the Dart River Safari, which leaves from Glenorchy (which is absolutely gorgeous). It's a sedate jet boat ride combined with a short stroll through the rainforest. Incredible scenery and a heck of alot tamer than the Shotover Jet ride in QT, which is basically a thrill ride.
Queenstown also has some very nice restaurants, two casinos, lots of shopping, a scenic lake cruise on the TSS Ernslaw, an underwater observatory, a museum, etc. Nearby Historic Arrowtown might interest you as well with it's museum, 4x4 tours, spa, golf course, fishing, etc.
I really doubt you'd have any trouble filling your time in Queenstown, but I highly recommend renting a car so you can get out and explore the surrounding area.

THe trip to Walter Peak on the vintage steamship Earnslaw is very relaxing. Walter Peak is a working high country sheep station (farm). THey have a "Farm experience" setup which is run separately from the farming operation. There are a number of teme farm animals, and they send the dogs out to bring in a few sheep which are shorn, and the wool spun into yarn. You also have morning or afternoon tea at the station homestead. It's a lovely relaxing half day.
The trip up to the Skyline restaurant on the Gondola is exciting, but not scary. THe food is good, and the view is spectacular. THis can take from about 1 hour, to all day, depending on how long you want to spend there.
Just wandering around the town shopping, or just looking, is a good way to spend half a day.
Tours to the Gibston Valley vineyards is relaxing.
You could drive out to the Shotover Bridge and watch the bunjy jumpers.
Despite it's reputation as a party town, Queenstown has plenty of attractions for all ages. You shouldn't let it's reputati0n put you off.

I am actually in Queenstown right now and there is PLENTY to do for any age!
Depending on how daring or un-daring you are-- there is parasailing (i've seen quite a few people in their 80s and 90s go up).
We did the Shotover Jet today which was a bit thrilling but definitely doable for anyone-- however, I have heard that the Dart River Jet Safari is a bit more subdued.
Furthermore, make sure you take the gondola up to the top to overlook the entire city and even have a meal and show!
