Port Vila

We ( husband, 11 yr old son and I) are off to Port Vila for a week in the upcoming school holidays.
We like to snorkel and do whatever touristy and non touristy things the places we visit have to offer.
Can anyone answer some of these questions for me?
1. Best way to get from the airport to our accommodation? Should we pre book this?
2. Is it easy & cost effective to rent snorkel equipment or should we take our own with us?
3. As school teachers, we'd love to visit local schools and maybe take some school 'stuff' with us as a gift. Is that an ok, manageable thing to do? If so, what 'stuff' would be useful, e.g. books, stationery etc.
4. Must do's in Port Vila?
5. Do we need to exchange money before we go or can we use ATMs in Port Vila?
