After much deliberation, I finally selected the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort for the perfect honeymoon, being attracted to the clear waters, tennis court, and large rooms. I was then told it was SOLD OUT for the week I will be there! Ugh! I am desperate for something comparable. The Meridien looks nice, but Fodors keeps harping on the lack of shade trees and wind. Is that a real problem? Should we stay there? The Intercontinental looks nice, but I hear they are renovating, which will be a problem. We are willing to shell out big bucks for this, but want clear waters and secluded overwater bungalows. Please help with any advice you may have. Thanks in advance.

If the Sofitel Motu is available, stay there. But there are only 30 bungalows on the entire island so you may have a hard time. I have lots of pictures at the Motu on our website www.tahiti.wunschl.com. Where ever you end up, you will have a great time. Bora Bora is beautiful.

I agree with Tiffany that the Sofitel Motu is perhaps your best choice, but Le Meridien is very nice too - as is the Beachcomber. We were on the island 2 years ago and even then there was more shade at the Le Meridien than it looks in the photos of the place. It still could use a bit more I think - but on the other hand, I believe you've got easy access to a very large motu for exploring (great fun) - much easier and better access than at the Pearl Beach - so there is a trade off. Either the PB, the Le Meridien, the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort, the Sofitel Motu or the new smaller Pearl Beach Eden Beach (kind'a near Le Meridien) will offer terrific views across the lagoon.

The Pearl Beach would have been a great choice, but the fact is.... it's the island (actually the lagoon) itself that is the real star. I'd stay in a tent if it meant I could live there.

We stayed at Le Meridian Bora Bora for a week late May/early June 2000. We did not notice a shade problem. It was a little windy all through our trip but we chalked that up to the fact of the time of year we went. One night a big storm blew through and our little overwater bungaloo really felt it. Pretty cool.

BTW, the hammocks in the grove between the bungaloos and the main part of the hotel are excellent but much prized. Get there early. Nice way to spend a day.

Hi Joan,I was at the Le Meridien Bora Bora in March of 2001.I too was worried about their not being much shade on the Motu,but there is alot more shade than it looks in the pictures of the resort.
Lot's of hammocks strung between palm trees and lounge chairs you can put in the Lagoon,the sun,or under a palm tree for shade.Don't worry,you'll love it at the Le Meridien.And if it makes you feel better I thing the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort has been nicknamed 'Mosquito Motu' by people on a couple of forums. Have a great trip!!!
