Perth Holiday Inn - Burswood, City Centre or Crowne Plaza?

Can anyone recommend which Holiday Inn to use in Perth? (we have Holiday Inn hotel points so want to use them). Would prefer a quiet hotel, with easy parking. Is Burswood a bit 'lively' being in an entertainment complex?

Hi tockoloshe -

I haven't stayed at either, but I'm familiar with both.

The City Centre Holiday Inn is right in the thick of things, smack dab in the middle of the CBD. Parking is indeed a problem downtown (and expensive) but I assume the Holiday Inn has some sort of parking arrangement. From the CBD location you can walk to many places in the city, and you're just a stone's throw from the Perth Underground and The Esplande train station and busport (from where you can get just about anywhere in Perth). It's also a shortish walk to Barrack Street Jetty, from which you can take a ferry across the river to South Perth, or down to Freo & Rottnest, etc. You can also walk to Kings Park from the City Centre location, but it does involve a very steep hill!

The city location offers any number of pubs and cafes...you merely need to step outside your front door. Although it's in a bustling city location, I doubt noise would be a problem at night, as Perth is well...sleepy...and shuts down pretty early. The noisy club scene is over in Northbridge.

Burswood on the other hand, has plenty of parking...but the location isn't one I'd personally choose for exploring Perth. It's more suburban. But of course, if you're planning to drive everywhere, it might be what you're after. There's a train station in the Burswood area, but my recollection is that it's not particularly convenient (?) It's also out by itself somewhat...other than the casio, entertaintment complex and the hotels, I don't remember there being much out that way, but that could be a function of my poor memory.

The area surrounding Burswood is nice, with some walks near the river, etc, but it does get rather busy being so close to the casino. I like a good casino as much as the next person, but to be honest, we've found Burswood pretty dull.

Thanks! Can rely on you to come up with the goods! Have already used your Perth report to plan our days in and around Perth, as well as the trip north. Aren't you off soon on your trip?

Yep, we're outta here soon.

FYI - I recently took an overseas visitor to Caversham Wildlife park and we both LOVED it, so if you're looking for more things to do in/around Perth...

That was on my 'possibles' list, but I'll make it a 'definite' with your recommendation - love anything to do with wildlife!
Have a great trip and looking forward to the report!

The HI at Burswood is a nicer and newer hotel. The upmarket Intercontinental is located next door in the same complex. It is a resort and has its own golf course and the International tennis centre with courts nearby. The Hopman Cup (tennis) used to be held at Burswood. The complex has many eateries and a couple of fine dining restaurants. Also a day Spa and of course the Casino. Burswood is not very far from the city at all aprox 5kms. It does get busy on the weekends because of the casino and whatever functions being held at the time. However, Las Vegas it is not.
