NZ's most famous albatross takes flight

Jump to last reply

For those who are interested, Moana, star of the Otago Peninsula's Taiaroa Head Royal Albatross webcam, has taken flight! Dunedin fans have sent her off with best wishes, and high hopes that she will safely travel the ocean and return in a few years to breed on Taiaroa Head. The two-minute video captures her life from hatching to feedings and weigh-ins, to fledging.

The Northern Royal Albatross is an endangered species, and the Taiaroa Head colony is the Southern Hemisphere's only mainland albatross colony.
